Leading tyre company, Bridgestone has re-affirmed its commitment to South Australia with the start of construction of a brand new corporate head office in Adelaide.

Expected to be completed late this year, Bridgestone's site on Greenhill Road, Eastwood has been designed and developed by local commercial, industrial and residential construction specialists, Catcorp.

Bridgestone will be the primary tenant of the development, serving as the national headquarters for Bridgestone Australia's leadership team, marketing, sales and operations, HR, finance, corporate services and retail support teams.

According to Bridgestone Australia & New Zealand Managing Director, Stephen Roche, the decision to remain in Adelaide is a commitment to supporting the state that shaped the company's heritage.

"We're delighted to commit to the next phase of Bridgestone Australia & New Zealand's history in Adelaide, and continue our story in South Australia from a brand new corporate headquarters," Mr Roche said.

"South Australia has been the centre of Bridgestone's operations in Australia since its beginning, and we're thrilled to continue to give back to the state that shaped the company we are now.

The start of construction of Bridgestone's new office comes off the back of the company's 80th anniversary in Australia, with its local lineage dating back to the formation of SA Rubber Mills in December 1939. The company evolved and expanded before becoming Uniroyal Tyres, then developing into Bridgestone Australia in 1981.

Today, Bridgestone's South Australian presence spans across more than 50 sites, including the national head office, state office, warehouses, company owned stores, and network of franchised and licensed Bridgestone Select and Bridgestone Service Centre locations.

While the company has surpassed its pearl anniversary in SA, Bridgestone is focussed on the future by way of the of its new head office, and a recent 10-year extension to its partnership with the South Australian Tourism Commission run Bridgestone World Solar Challenge.

"It's important to Bridgestone to be active in the markets and communities we operate in, and the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge is a perfect example of how as a global company we are investing in the future, not just locally, but on a global level," Mr Roche added.

"Our new Australian headquarters is just one element of our ongoing commitment to South Australia, but our continued support of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge for the next decade highlights our focus on the future."

Minister for Trade and Investment, David Ridgway said Bridgestone is a valued partner to the state and welcomes the construction of their new national headquarters on Greenhill Road.

"We have a long and rich history with Bridgestone through one of our signature events, the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge which attracts thousands of visitors to South Australia every year and we are thrilled that this partnership will continue long into the future," Minister Ridgeway said.

Bridgestone's investment in South Australian goes beyond tyres and business operations, supporting a range of community initiatives throughout the state. The company is also a long-term partner of the Leukaemia Foundation and naming rights partner of the charity's patient support village in Adelaide.

"There is an undeniable affinity between Bridgestone and South Australia, and I have no doubt this will continue to strengthen as we enter our next chapter and look towards 100 years in SA," Mr Roche added.
